2008-04-28 HOBIE FISH - SYSTEM FINS AVAILABLE NOW |
available in FCS and Futures compatible.
Reeling from a burgeoning fish revival, Hobie surfboards has chosen this twin fin template to fervently guide its Circa ?71 fish model. Just for kicks and industry bravado, we decided to grind off a few extra sets and push the addictive little bastards upon the world. As any drug dealer with good product would say, this s#*t sells itself! With a blunt tip, 7? base, and a full leading edge, the Hobies are now our most traditionally styled and popular twin template.

2008-04-01 J.D. WAVE AVAILABLE NOW!! |
This fin delivers! Local central Cal.Sailor John Drab excels in trick and rapid transition sailing. The JD Wave has what it takes to get back on a plane. The “Full” area of this design compliments the short, wider freestyle wave boards. Perfect for boards in the 70 to 100 liter class
From the darkest depths of the Southern California good ol boy network, aside Baja rigs parked desperately in the Old Man's parking lot, comes the Slickermeyer Fin. At its biggest, somewhat at halfway point between the Velzy Noserider and the Heritage it flies gloriously on the nose while coyly giving away a sharp pivot turn here and there. At its smallest, it can power a modern log through sections beyond belief.
2006-06-26 GEPHART FISH FINS!!! |
If the droves of eagle-beaked 7-2 Sunset single-fins inching through chest-high Malibu are any indicator, we can conclude that staunch traditionalism has an on-again, off-again relationship with functionality. But when the two set aside their differences and decide to marry, only magic can happen.
Marine-ply fins are a gorgeous example of this phenomenon. As the craftsmanship in producing a speed-oriented, structurally-sound wood fin flourishes, so too does the aesthetic beauty of the fin. What’s more, set against all the tinkerings of the last 50 years – from carbon-fiber to plastic – marine-ply Baltic Birch wood is a fine choice for fin material.
Used widely for skateboards, it is the softest of the hardwoods, making it strong yet exceptionally light-weight and flexible. Most importantly, unlike a hunk of fiberglass and resin, a marine-ply fin floats. A positive buoyancy characteristic, combined with a negligible weight-factor, increases nose-to-tail balance, producing a noticeable a loss of drag.
For your meddlings in the intersection of style and substance, True Ames now offers the handiwork of Larry Gephart, San Diego’s finman of mystery. Two templates, each one a double foiled traditional fisherman’s floating scrimshaw.

2006-06-10 3 NEW SYSTEM FIN TEMPLATES!!!! |
Legendary music producer Rick Reuben once gested that any band can write a hit tune, but few can kick out a collection of songs that he would call "a record." We couldn't agree more, which is why we took great pains select and refine the perfect templates to complete our little cadre of Truelite system fins. The new additions: a Hawaiian snapper from Erik Arakawa, a socal chophop slayer from Lost, and a Kustom power template from Channel Islands. You can only ride one set at a time, but trust me, as you might Rick, they all fit together.
2006-03-19 INDRODUCING THE SURFGRASS |
We want to conquer Earth, but we're going to take her alive. Mankind's history is a history of this hot pursuit, and it is a tale of technology forged in this regard. Sometime after the advent of agriculture, windsurfers wage endless war with seaweed - a most fearsome non-domesticate. We learned how to cut through it, but as waves broke in Earth's vast weed gardens, the knights needed a new lance. For this True Ames introduces the Surfgrass: a graceful cutsman of wavefaces and sea flora. Enjoy.
2005-07-22 LOVE COMES IN SPURTS |
Your surfing life with your thruster started off so wonderfully - a glimmer of sunshine that gently melted the toil from your turns. Sometime ago things just got... well... stagnant. You used to surf together every day, sometimes once in the morning and again in the evening. Now whenever you show a little interest, your turns are forced, low on energy, and the session doesn't last nearly as long as days past. The spark is gone. Should you move on? Or perhaps it is time to spice things up a little. There's nothing wrong will a little innocent experimentation between two wave-crossed lovers.
It is for this purpose that True Ames brings you the smooth, energetic feel of fiberglass fins, available in both FCS and Future bases. Sultry templates from Timmy Patterson, Channel Islands, and Brad Gerlach, with precision foils and generous flex, will have you turning harder, faster, and longer than ever before. Best of all, removable fin technology allows you change this up, surf in exotic locations, and make every surf feel like the first time. Bid adieu to those plastic toys; open up to the sheer ecstasy of fiberglass and resin.
2005-06-03 VIVA LA TRUELITE REVOLUCION |
For years, a subversive thruster junt, popularly known as the Trulites, secretly hailed as the savior for the waterbound technological revolution, has subsided within the shadows, impoverished by glass-on fin oppression. Now, armed with FCS bases, the lightweight flex of the RTM composite voice will be heard. An army of young, vicious templates will stage a bloodless coup on their conservative counterparts, leaving only the True Ames Flag in their wake. Look here at an image of the frontline, TA01 - Timmy Patterson - so loyal and drivey as he ushers surfers into the new era.
For those who refuse to indulge in tired analogies, please note: Timmy Patterson Truelites are now available in FCS bases.
2005-01-21 SOMETHING'S FISHY WITH THE TRUELITES |
In the next few weeks, the Hobie Fish twin fin will become the newest addition to our growing family of RTM composite templates. At 134X182mm, these fins will aptly sustain the needs of any retro fish design, while the construction provides a fin that is 25% lighter than its standard fiberglass cousins.
2004-12-15 NEW HOBIE FINS IN STOCK |
Hobie Alter introduced the foam surfboard to us around 50 years ago, but it took a while for the Hobie team to develop a set of signature templates. We are happy to offer three impressive Hobie templates: one a flex fin similar to the L-Flex but stiffer, one a large area, wide-based retro noserider, and the third an all around performance junky.

2004-11-03 SKIP FRYE - NEW FLEX FINS |
Skip Frye confesses, "I'm freaky about fins." Captivated by the knee-based carves of Greenough, the San Diego surfer/shaper was among the first so-Cal heads to experiment with reduced fin areas and expecially flex. The Skip Frye Flex offers more area than the L-Flex, providing slightly better hold, but it has a less extreme rake than the Norm Flex, allowing for a smaller turning radius. This fin suits a variety of midlength eggs and can be a healthy experiment for the right longboard.

2004-10-29 THE NEW L-FLEX TEMPLATE IS HERE! |
As the tides of single-fin mayhem continue to fluctuate, we have created and additional template for the beloved 9" L-Flex. While many Liddle enthusiasts prefer the original, narrow-tipped design, others demand a little more hold out of the fin. The new fuller template for the L-flex offers ample flex but has more area, mirroring the templates for the smaller sizes. Both versions of the 9" L-Flex are now available!

2004-10-23 BONZER SUPER-LITE |
California is going Bonzer crazy, and we decided to manufactuer a little present for all the bonzer fiends out there: the Bonzer Super-Lite. This fin was spawned from the same template as our 6.5 Bonzer center fin, but we constructed it out of molded fiberglass, which allows the Super-Lite to be 10% lighter yet just as strong.
