The Parrish Single is a classic ‘70s era single fin! It’s named after Tom Parrish, legendary shaper known for his rounded-pin, big wave, and semi-gun style single fins that surfers like Shaun Tomson, Margo Oberg, Wayne “Rabbit” Bartholomew and Charlie Smith were putting to the test along the North Shore of Hawaii at waves like Pipeline, Sunset, and Haleiwa. Parrish began his shaping career at Surfline Hawaii and Country Surfboards before transitioning to Lightning Bolt, where he had the opportunity to work with and forge a friendship with Gerry Lopez. Eventually Tom went on to establish his own label, aptly named Parrish Hawaiian Designs - wherein there are equally sought after boards he shapes still to this day.
While made to fit in a box these days, the Parrish Single Fin is the exact template that you would have seen glassed onto single-fin pintails in their heyday. Its original design and intention remains: a wide base and solid surface area, together with minimal flex, will hold the tail when you really need it.
